fbi radio has long been a vanguard of Sydney’s creative and cultural landscape. Often recognised as the launchpad for many Australian musical artists, the community is vital for championing local sounds and voices. We helped fbi with a holistic evolution across the brand and digital experience, setting the stage for a new era beyond the linear FM signal.

The conceptual building blocks

At the core of the brand system are a few key ingredients: visual noise that shifts endlessly in tone and texture, layered compositions that build density and depth, and kinetic typography. These elements move and behave like sound, shifting between fluid and rhythmic, smooth and chaotic.

Champions of emergence

The dynamic building blocks interweave to form fbi radio’s distinct new identity. An expressive, tactile, and living system shaped by layered forms, visual noise and kinetic typography coming together to create a world of endless nuance and texture. Through this visual language, we channel the richness and constant motion of the emerging sounds, voices and ideas of the community — creating a system that is simultaneously a vessel for culture as well as an expression of the station’s own rich personality.

Generating rich assets

We built a tool to give the fbi team hands-on access to the new visual language, letting station staff generate and export brand assets from an endless world of textures and moods.

New digital foundations

As part of fbi's holistic evolution, we designed, built and launched the station's new digital home. Built with modern web technologies to allow live streaming, episode playback, and rich searching, the new website allows fbi’s curatorial voice to come to life visually and interactively. Behind the scenes, the foundations are set for ongoing transformation to enhance and develop new features over time.

The result of many months of close collaboration with the station and its community, the launch of fbi’s refreshed identity and time-shifted digital experience lays the groundwork for a new decade of platforming Sydney's emerging talent.
